V.C.O.P. Pyramids (for assembly into 3D)

There are 4 elements that are generic to all levels and sub-levels of development in writing skills.
They are:
- the range of vocabulary and ambitious words used
- the range of connectives used
- the range of sentence openers used
- the range of punctuation used
There are many examples of all four of the generic elements that can be explicitly taught. For pupils, the above can be learned and used in context if well taught and embedded. Each Pyramid is levelled, the top being the easiest and the bottom the hardest for more sophisticated writing.
The Pyramids can be used to illustrate progression in each of the four elements. For further information, please refer to Ros' book 'Strategies for Immediate Impact on Writing Standards'.
