Dogs for the disabled

Andrell Education is sponsoring a puppy!

Dogs for the Disabled creates life-changing partnerships by training assistance dogs to help disabled people lead a fuller, more independent life.

Every assistance dog trained by the charity offers practical help to the people they support. Their work with physically disabled adults opens doors to independence, giving a new sense of confidence and freedom, often long forgotten. In 2004, the Children's Project was introduced, training dogs for physically disabled children and offering a friend and helper rolled into one.

The decision to support such a worthwhile charity was an easy one, naming 'our' puppy, much less so. To resolve the debate, we asked a local school, Crofton Infants, to ask their pupils to provide a selection of names, from which the trainers at Dogs for the Disabled would select a winner. At the time we didn't know if we would get a little boy or girl, but are delighted to have been allocated a girl, who has been named Jewel. We now know that she is a black Labrador!
