"The positive vibe around the school is amazing and today I am experiencing it myself as my Deputy is out and I have led the big writing with her class. I wish I taught all the time!"

Nik Smith, HT, St Peter's CEP School, Kent

"The Big Writing has had, and continues to have a significant impact upon all of the children. We thank you for your involvement because without it we would have struggled to have made the progress that we have."

Steve Bartlett, HT, Love Lane Primary School, Isle of Wight

An Introduction to Ros Wilson's Strategies and Concepts

Four years ago, Ros Wilson produced 'Raising Standards in Writing', followed a year later by 'Strategies for Immediate Impact in Writing Standards', and introduced a new teaching methodology for raising standards in writing rapidly and effectively. The method is based on fast, fun and lively teaching of the ‘writing voice’ through oracy. It gives pupils confidence and the understanding to develop control of a higher level writing voice without requiring the understanding of technical knowledge of syntax and grammatical analysis. This is important as not all primary aged children are ready for the level of technical knowledge and understanding required to access higher order language in this way.

Ros’s latest publication, ‘Write on Target’ was published in May 2006 and builds on the previous publications, ‘Raising Standards in Writing’, (2002) and ‘Strategies for Immediate Impact on Writing Standards’, (2003).

The publication of Ros's works allowed the word to spread and today thousands of teachers and schools own copies of her books and have attended her training courses. The results are nothing short of staggering! We have included extracts from Case Studies and tables showing the progress schools have made through the implementation the new methodology. Please take the time to browse through the links on the left hand side of this page and use the Contact page to forward any questions to our office. All feedback is greatly appreciated and we may seek your permission to use extracts either on this website or in future publications or courses. We are committed to supporting you in your efforts to raise standards and if we can be of assistance in any way, we will attempt to do so.

MAKING PUPILS WHO DO NOT LIKE TO WRITE WRITE MORE WILL NOT MAKE THEM WRITE BETTER!
