Oracy
Big Writing is a predominantly oracy-driven methodology with two distinct strands:
- Teaching the ‘writing voice’ through oracy
- Teaching accurate grammar and pronunciation through the fun of ‘the posh voice’
HMCI David Bell says there is too much teacher talk and not enough pupil talk in our classrooms! This not the case in Big Writing, where the first session is almost entirely oracy based.
