Roger Bird has over 30 years experience of teaching mathematics across all key stages and abilities including running a successful department. He has been a senior Mathematics Consultant since 1999, playing a significant role in raising standards in mathematics in a variety of settings. He was also one of the first consultants involved in the development of the National Numeracy Project and has published several mathematical resources for both primary and secondary schools including Target Boards. Roger was featured on several of the National Strategy videos, including demonstrating how to use a counting stick to practice multiplication and division facts. He is considered to be a leading practitioner in the effective use of number lines and other related resources that can significantly contribute to strengthening pupils' number skills. Roger's support for schools through school based activities and INSETs usually features practical ideas and resources for helping to develop pupils' reasoning and communication skills and the application of number in a variety of settings. He has developed a range of creative and exciting teaching and learning materials that can be used to significantly accelerate pupil progress and increase pupil engagement and enjoyment. Roger's experience also includes up-to-date intelligence about recent developments such as the revised National Curriculum and Secondary Framework, Assessing Pupils' Progress and Functional Skills.
