Pete Halsall

'Big Writing' Consultant

'Described as an outstanding literacy coordinator prior to joining Andrell, Pete has established himself as an excellent presenter who enjoys a wonderful rapport with delegates.'
Pete taught in Primary Schools in Trafford, South Manchester for sixteen years. During that time he often fulfilled the role of Literacy Coordinator and was described as being "very good" and "outstanding" during the three Ofsted inspections he experienced. He worked as a member of a team of Teacher Partners whose role was to offer support in teaching and learning in a school placed in Special Measures and also spent some time as a Deputy Head.

Three years ago he attended Ros Wilson's 'Day One of Raising Standards in Writing' and returned to his classroom a changed man! Implementing the strategies in his own class and introducing them to his colleagues, he saw a great impact across his school and worked as a member of a group within a Learning Network to introduce 'Big Writing' into more schools.

In January 2006 he joined Andrell Education as a 'Big Writing' Consultant and started to combine training in 'Big Writing' with his classroom teaching. In July 2007, having had an inspection at his school that was "outstanding" across the board, Pete left the classroom to concentrate solely upon delivering 'Big Writing' training. Being fresh from the classroom, Pete tries to ensure that his training is always teacher-friendly and also hugely practical. He still uses the strategies, teaching in schools with whom he works in partnership arrangements. Evaluations from recent courses have described his training as "entertaining", "practical", "doable", "inspirational" and, bizarrely, himself in person as being "easy on the eye"!
