Lorna Walter

Lorna Walter has over 38 years of experience and has taught across all primary key stages in a wide variety of schools and local authorities in the south east of England and London. She has a variety of responsibilities throughout her career; all literacy related, which have included Language Co-ordinator and SENCO. She was a headteacher for ten years in two schools and most recently her experience has included working as an early years adviser for a large local authority as well as being involved in disseminating the training for the Communication Language and Literacy Development programme with the then DCSF.

She has a wealth of experience in delivering training at conference level, school based level and individual support for leadership teams and teachers. Throughout her career she has devoted time to the development of children's learning and visited schools in Italy, Norway and Canada to enable her to improve her pedagogy and that of her colleagues. She is passionate about the rights of all children to be recognised as competent, motivated learners and thinkers and for teachers to deliver a curriculum that meets the needs of all children.

Her last project for a local authority involved a long term CPD project with 36 schools and settings to develop the importance of respecting children's own thinking and offering them the freedom of outdoor play and experiences to improve their communication, language and literacy development. She is currently working as a freelance educational consultant delivering training for schools and Local Authorities as well as working in partnership with Andrell Education and as an external examiner at Greenwich University.
